In a historic move, Shelys Pharmaceuticals acquired Kenya based Beta Healthcare in 2003, providing a powerful entrance into the OTC product market. Beta Healthcare is the sole distributer for Novartis products to Anglophone countries in Africa and this alliance has extended the reach of Shelys Africa to over 31 countries.

Shelys Africa has several strong and stable brands such as Salama, Action, Beta Gripe, Maramoja, Koflyn, Coldril, Mucolyn, Sheladol, Dicolpan and Co-Malafin amongst several other leading best selling brands.

Established in 1984, Shelys Pharmaceuticals has developed into a world-class manufacturer and distributer of drugs and curative medicine. Shelys’ state of the art, fully automated and temperature controlled facilities are located in Dar es Salaam. Operational in 2006, with an investment value of US$12 million, it is amongst the largest and most sophisticated plants of its kind in East and Central Africa. The plant encompasses and a total area of 300000 square feet of which more than 60% constitutes the built up area.

Shelys Africa entered into a strategic partnership with South African – based JSE listed Aspen Holdings in 2008. Aspen is acknowledged as the largest manufacturer of generics in the southern hemisphere.
